Camping, v.1 (Because More Will Surely Follow)
(Warning: This is a picture-heavy post, so unless you're related to us by blood or spirit, this might get dull.) That said...we just returned from a fantastic (if mosquito intensive) overnight trip to Brooks Lake on Togwotee Pass, with a quick dash to Yellowstone and Old Faithful for good measure. A few highlights: Hayden caught his first fish, which he was excited about right up until the moment he saw the thing come flopping up toward the canoe. Needless to say, we let it go. He was also thrilled to discover both a motorcycle log and a fire truck log (if he's driving, it's a motorcycle, if Dad's driving, it's a fire truck. Duh.) in camp. We told stories by the fire and made s'mores. Daddy to Hayden: "Hayden, there are two kinds of people in this world. People who let the fire be, and people who feel the need to improve the fire by poking at it. Your mother is a fire poker." No response from Hayden. But some time later this: "Daddy! Mommy's poking the fire again!" We saw elk and moose and eagles and kept an eye out for grizzlies, too. Hayden's whole weekend was made, however, when we spotted no fewer than SIXTEEN articulated dump trucks (plus one grader) parked neatly at the edge of the road.
Who needs charismatic megafauna with such charismatic machinery around?
