Blast Off!
We all watched the final space shuttle launch this weekend and Mommy, being prone to bouts of nostalgia, got a little teary remembering the day in 1981 when she watched, on the TV screen at the front of her first-grade classroom, the first launch of the first shuttle, Columbia. My, my. Time flies like a rocket booster, huh?
But far from ending around our house, the space program here is just getting started. Armed with a garage-sale astronaut costume and a handful of pertinent library books (Sheep Blast Off anyone?), we are launching into our own exploration of space. Who knows where it will take us, or what we might find! Colander helmets? Moon boots? A mastery of counting backwards? We can't wait to find out.
In the meantime, we'll leave you with the first quote of our new adventure: "I'm the astronaut. Mommy, you be the shuttle. Daddy, you be the part that falls off." Onward—boldly!
