Father's Day Paddle

We got up at the crack of dawn this morning for a trip to String and Leigh Lakes in Teton Park to celebrate Father's Day. Such fun! We met Aunt Polly and Uncle Dan in Dubois and had a greasy breakfast at the Cowboy Cafe, then headed over the pass to the land of bison, bears, and big mountains.
Hayden did pretty well for his first time in the canoe, although as naptime neared it grew harder to convince him of the necessity of refraining from climbing over the gunwales. He got to use the paddle Daddy made for Tristan many years ago, and he seemed to like both that and the wooden boat on the string Daddy lashed to the bow for hours, er, minutes of entertainment. (I'm sure it will all be better when he's got a few more inches on him.)
We got off the water just in time to miss the rain and the hordes of kayaking tourists. Dinner in Dubois, followed by a quick and dirty natural history lesson ("Hayden, this is a jackalope. No questions, please.") and a sunset drive home along the Wind River.

Now everyone but Mama is tucked into bed—dreaming, no doubt, of more fine days just like this one. Happy Father's Day, Daddy. We do so love you!

What a fun Daddy's Day. Great pics and commentary as usual. How nice to use your brother's paddle, it's cool. Glad you have a fun daddy, Hayden. Love,
