Stuff

Like all parents, we want to raise a baby who shares our values, our beliefs, and our morals. In this case I guess that would mean raising a little elk hunting knee-jerk liberal Luddite with a predilection for books, Basho, bacon, and birding. Good enough. We can do that. But we’d also like him to grow up giving conscious thought to his stuff—where it comes from, who made it and from what, and where it goes when he’s through with it.

We’ll try to meet his needs with a few authentically made things of quality, built to last. Ideally, things made by hand—by his friends, family, or someone we actually know. Then when he’s older we’ll teach him how to make his own things, both for himself and for the people he loves.
